previous - "The Beautiful People" - next Overslept, as I was having vivid and interesting (yet instantly forgettable) dreams. However, I do have an innate mechanism that kinda wakes me up late when I have a lie-in, but which doesn’t allow me to sleep so long that it is impossible to get up in time. I therefore only had a quarter hour to get ready for work, as opposed to the planned/usual eighty minutes, but I managed to do so.
Work was not too bad. I’ve failed to remember very much that happened during the day, but I’m sure nothing too bad or too good happened. Plodded along, I guess, coping with the quiet periods and the busy bits with equal good (odd) humour.
I gave the personnel manager my teacher training form to write her reference on this morning. On the ‘plus’ side, my part of the task is pretty much done, and the weight is off my mind as far as that is concerned. Additionally, the personnel manager said she’d give the reference to me to send off – so at least I’ll see it before it goes (which I guess will be a weight/worry off my mind). However, balanced against this is the fact that she said it’ll take a few days for her to do it as she’s busy (a bit of a pisser, where the urgency of applying is concerned) plus I don’t think she has the right idea w.r.t. what is needed from her. I fear she’ll fuck up my application. Oh, and someone has told my boss – which maybe explains why she has been a bit odd this week.
Got a text off my mate JH inviting me out to her work leaving do in a weeks time. Should be nice. Is a bit funny though, ‘cause I kinda was half invited by EYL to the same thing earlier on this week. There are slight etiquette type amusing foibles afoot :-) Look forward to it anyhow.
’The Trouble With Bex’ this evening was actually very funny. Jessica Stevenson is always excellent, the woman who plays Chris (and who was in ‘Teachers’) is fantastic, and Elizabeth Marmur plays fruitcake neurotic women very well too (reference her portrayal of Toni in ‘Peep Show’). The series is starting to take shame and is developing well, in my opinion.
LISTENING TO:- At work, CDs by Longpigs, Timo Maas and a couple of rather mixed compilations. Some stuff worked better than others, unsurprisingly.
Tapeworms have got fantastic Latin species names, haven’t they? Nippostrongylus brasiliensis for example. Not to mention Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus, Wuchereria bancrofti and Trichinella spiralis. OK, so some of them are nematodes, and not strictly ‘tapeworms’ per se, but you get the picture. I was paying attention in the parasitology lectures I attended eight years ago, it seems!
