previous - "The Beautiful People" - next It's bad, is it, when your TV keeps making hissing 'escaping
gas under pressure' noises and intermittently lets off small sparky explosions,
is it? It didn't seem to affect it working, however, so who knows :-)
Um.. I bought an iron today. It's quite good, but far too
technical for me. I'm not used to having something more complicated than the one
I had before, which just heated up when you plugged it in. The new one squirts
steam and water and self cleans and all that.
Apart from that, on my trip to town, I got one of those tassled knitted hats, plus a couple of 'humour' books for JR's sis (who is having her b'day this w/e). Chatted to her via the text a bit today, which was pleasant and enjoyable. Chatted briefly to JR too, and despite feeling a bit like we've taken a step back from each other in our friendship, in truth it's generally still OK.
"...and now you're gone, there's like an echo in my head. And I remember every word you said..."
Watched a couple of episodes of series 2 of 'Scrubs' today, which was pretty OK. It seemed to be laying on the 'poignant' at the expense of 'funny', however. I'll be interested to see whether this is a theme for the series, or just the fact that the first episode of the series had to tie up stuff from the last episode of series 1.
Douglas Coupland 'Microserfs' continues to have just enough to make me persist. I'm pissed off with the 'filler' of umpteen pages of random 'subconcious' stuff which was noted, however. It feels almost as annoying and obvious an unneccesary filler as the 'novel within a novel' that 'The Gum Thief' contained.
In the day's football, Wigan got an 89th minute goal
against Spurs to win 1-0, and Man United strolled past Chelsea with suprising
ease at Old Trafford - the game ending 3-0 to the home side.
LISTENING TO:- I think I've given that Bon Iver album a little bit of a harshness due to it's popularity and the fact it's been in a lot of the end-of-2008 'best of' lists. It's pigheaded of me to dislike stuff which is popular, but it does sometimes happen. Anyhow, today whilst ironing a few Bon Iver tracks came on without me knowing who it was, and I really liked 'em.
After the Cards whupped the Panther's butt-ocks yesterday after I posted (33-13.. six turnovers by Carolina, I think), today's games ended with the Eagles overcoming the Giants (23-11) and a high-scoring game between San Diego and Pittsburgh ending 35-24 in favour of the Steelers (28 points scored in the final quarter, which was shared 14-14!). The Cardinals play the Eagles in the NFC Championship game, and the Ravens will face the Steelers.
I do hope my TV doesn't explode or set fire to anything during the night. I'm petrified about leaving it on standby or plugged in now (which I suppose is a good thing).
