previous - "The Beautiful People" - next Ten things I did today:-
1. Got to work and toiled through lots of the
stuff I had planned. Then I was given even more crap on the same theme.
That said, the boss of mine who was giving me the work to do was
straight and reasonable n'all that. Still, it was knackering.
2. Listened to a bit of the cricket when I got
in. England scored 272/2 with Cook getting a good century, and the
match was predictably drawn.
3. Saw a woman on the train home today who I was
fairly sure was a girl I went to school with. But since I'd not seen
her for fifteen years, I couldn't be sure. In the end, 'cause she got
off at the same stop as me, I asked this woman if she was from my home
town, and she said she wasn't. I'm not 100% convinced though - she
could've just not recognised me and thought I was some wierdo.
4. Watched a couple of episodes of Series 4 of
'Family Guy', which seems an improvement on Series 3 (which I was a bit
disappointed by, for reasons uncertain). There's an extent to which
this might be explained by the original cancellation and then revival
of the show btwn the two series mentioned.
5. Bemoaned the fact that I think I am
developing a stinking cold. I thought I was going to get a cold sore
earlier too, but that seems to have retracted of it's own accord.
6. Listened to a few more random tracks on the
way to work. Stand out was Staind 'Right Here', and it was also
marvellous to rediscover Metallica 'Mama Said' as well.
7. Had cramp in my calves once more. I think I
tend to stretch the backs of my lower legs whilst potterin' round at
the weekend, and hence when I do walking for more than quarter of an
hour at brisk pace, they seize up somewhat.
8. Pissed about with a list of factors and an
Excel spreadsheet to see if I could find out anything regarding the
gradient of the graph etc. Difficult to see patterns, I guess. 324 is
an interesting number. Fifteen factors, so must be a square.. is it 18
squared? What is the smallest number with thirteen factors? Can a
number have a prime number of factors?
9. Scraped a load of flaky skin off the bottom
of my toes. Perchance I've got some kind of athletes foot type thing,
though it doesn't itch, so it might just be hard skin.
10. Shut my thumb in a drawer. This fucking hurt
like a mother fudger.
...
Ten things I didn't do. Maybe I planned to do
them, but I didn't do 'em today (despite the fact I might've wanted to,
or should have done them):-
1. The washing up. Even after I wrote "C'mon Dud
- Do Da Washing Up!" on the back of an envelope in marker pen, and left
it on front of the TV where I'd see it. I think the 'u' in 'Dud' was
meant to have an umlaut on it, but it is a bit self-critically
Freudian, innit.
2. Grocery shopping. For lunch I had a cheese
and ham pastie. For dinner I had the other cheese and ham pastie that'd
come in the packet. That said, I was still hungry so I had some funky
soup and oatcakes.
3. Change the date displayed on my watch before
I'd written '30th Feb' on at least three pieces of paper. Damned stupid
watch doesn't know February only had 28 days!
4. Explicitly tell my office mates that they
were being too loud and I couldn't concentrate on the work I had to get
done. I didn't come out and ask them to turn the fucking heating down
either - was unpleasantly warm at times.
5. Stay awake. Despite having lain in bed till
almost one p.m. yesterday (Sunday), I was tired by the working day, and
I had a little snooze on the bus from work into town, and then on the
train back home. Didn't miss my stop in either case, though.
6. Work out how I am going to manage claiming
and taking whatever time I have owing to me from all the extra shit
I've put in recently. I dunno if it's even 'the done thing' to take
time off in lieu, or whether it's just expected that I'll burn the
candle at both ends at times of stressiness?
7. Um.. eaten whelks.
8. Err.. stuck a biro up my bum.
9. Ah.. banged Jane Horrocks.
10. Thought through how long this would take,
because I've relatively little to say about my day and my life at this
very moment :-)
