previous - "The Beautiful People" - next Well, after my nose did a passable impression of a
tap for most of yesterday - and a red sneezy tap at that - and having
woken up feeling in worse spirits this morning, I took today off. I
feel a bit guilty in that after another five hours sleep I woke up and
felt weakened, but improved, 'cold'-wise. In truth though I've probably
made a very good decision when you consider preventativeness and how bad
I'd have felt had I struggled in to work and toiled away.
I've made the most of it by participating in
sport spectation, so to speak. It was tense, and very close at the end,
but England whacked off a lead of 240 by scoring 150ish in the morning
session, then put the Windies in to bat. The Caribbeans played very
negatively, never really looking to win, and were 114/8 at the close,
having batted out two sessions very very slowly. They win the series
after one victory and four draws.
The football wasn't bad either - Liverpool
looked incredibly impressive in taking the game to the Spanish, and
beat Real Madrid 4-0 at Anfield (the emphatic nature of the scoreline
helping take the impact off a very dodgy penalty awarded), Chelsea drew
2-2 in Juventus and will be very happy, and both Bayern Munich (7-1
against Sporting, 12-1 on aggregate!) and Villareal (courtesy of a 2-1
away win against Panathiniakos, after the first leg ended 1-1) also
progress.
LISTENING TO:- Following my fuckupness around
New Year (with deleting stuff by accident) I'm ripping a load of tunes
that I previously burned to CDs in preparation for each of the tapes I
made my Mum in the past few years. This is meaning there is a lot of
repetition w.r.t. multiple copies of some tunes in my iTunes library,
but I am also regaining a load of tracks that I'd lost digital copies
of.
Additionally, since the majority of the songs in
question are, by definition, some of my favourites from the past three
or so years, it does give me a head-start in picking stuff I like for
my iPod each week, I suppose.
I had a bit of a fucky moment earlier on - at
about lunchtime I decided to stroll to the chemist and get some
medicine type stuff. Alas, despite the walk there being pleasant in the
sunshine, the shop was closed. Who the fuck takes a lunchbreak and
closes the shop these days? Fucking ridiculous! Anyhow, I was trying to
decide whether to wait around for 45 mins till it opened again, or go
home and come back later (in the end I did neither, actually) when a
load of rowdy schoolkids came up and by their presence made it awkward
for me to hang around.
It just reminded me uncomfortably of a feeling I
had at times when I was a teacher. I felt too aware of my weakness (in
this case it was my ill health, but previously it had been my lack of
experience as a teacher) and it made me feel bad - not helping my
indecision w.r.t. whether to wait for the chemists to re-open or not.
LISTENING TO:- Johnny Cash 'If I Could Read Your
Mind', which is growly and dark.
I am off to bed now. The cold has abated
somewhat, but my throat is feeling a little hoarse. Insert your own
'Shetland Pony' joke here.
