Uncle Eric wanted to control it with wires

Wednesday, Apr. 01, 2009 - 22:54

Not an awful day at work, in that a lot of today was pretty much paperworky, and yet not hardworkingly this Wednesday. I've piles to do, I'm taking my lead from my bosses, and I'm making dents in it, but not killing myself to get it all done by the end of the day (so to speak).

LISTENING TO:- yesterday and today, day-old episodes of the Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie show on BBC iPlayer. It's decent enough music, and pretty fine and dangly natter too (as befitting late-ish in the evening when I was tuning in).

Not an awful day as far as the 'home' countries did in World Cup Qualifiers. England really laboured to a 2-1 home win against Ukraine, dominating the posession but not really getting anywhere (and going quite close to only drawing 1-1).

Northern Ireland beat Slovenia 1-0, and had their position in a very tight group improved by Slovakia getting an away win in Czech Rep (2-1), and Poland winning 10-0 against San Marino. Who knows how it will go in their remaining games - the Ulstermen are in a reasonable position.

Scotland improved their hopes of beating Norway, Macedonia and Iceland to a play-off place behind the dominant 100% Dutch - by virtue of a 2-1 win at Hampden against Iceland. Republic of Ireland managed an excellent 1-1 draw in Italy, though could have done better as the Azzuri were down to ten men for most of the game.

Elsewise of interest in the day's footy, Russia only got one goal against Liechtenstein, France edged past Lithuania 1-0 at home, and Bosnia look well placed to be giving themself a chance of getting to the play-offs ahead of Turkey and Belgium. Biggest shock, altitude advantage aside, must be Bolivia winning 6-1 against Argentina in La Paz! It won't really prevent Maradona's men from qualifying, but it's nice to see the fat junkie humiliated :-)

I thought this final thing copied from The Onion was really quite funny in a witty sort of manner:-

98% Of Babies Manic-Depressive
NEW YORK—A new study published in The Journal Of Pediatric Medicine found that a shocking 98 percent of all infants suffer from bipolar disorder. "The majority of our subjects, regardless of size, sex, or race, exhibited extreme mood swings, often crying one minute and then giggling playfully the next," the study's author Dr. Steven Gregory told reporters. "Additionally we found that most babies had trouble concentrating during the day, often struggled to sleep at night, and could not be counted on to take care of themselves—all classic symptoms of manic depression." Gregory added that nearly 100 percent of infants appear to suffer from the poor motor skills and impaired speech associated with Parkinson's disease.
