previous - "The Beautiful People" - next Indeed. It's been a hell of a week, work wise.
Plenty plenty extra hours worked (one 10hr day, two 12hr days and two
14hr days, plus having to put in 7hrs today.. I make that sixty nine!),
and plenty stresses too as seemingly there was more stuff being thrown
at me faster than I could do existing tasks.
The worst thing wasn't the tiredness or the
stress, however. It was the embarrassment I felt at having the two
ladies (who came down from one of our other sites to help) look
perplexed and disappointed at how much of a mess things have been left
by my inexperience in the role, the deputy lab manager leaving us in
the lurch without really doing his job, and the lab manager having been
off recovering from a car crash for two and a half months.
I'm feeling less stressed than I was earlier in
the week. I've put plenty of effort in, I'm satisfied that my bosses
will appreciate how hard I've worked and how difficult a situation I
have been put in, and.. well.. we'll see how our big audit goes next
week.
Eurovision tonight, which was the usual crap,
though there were exceptions. Azerbaijan had a duet with a dirty
balding sailor and an attractive brunette doing a really nice upbeat
poppy tune. The Turkish entry (pardon the intention) was quite a nice
belly-dancer type lady who looked like Black Eyed Pea Fergie, but after
that I got bored and turned over to HIGNFY. Julia Hartley-Brewer I do
like - intelligent and funny she is, plus regarding the posh tottyness
affermative.
Spoke to someone on the train t'other day, when
I overheard him telling his mates he was from the same part of the
world as me. It turns out he knew my home town pretty damned well,
hence 'small world' type thoughts. I suppose had I not been ten years
older than him I may have had more common ground, but..
Results today (combined with Boro losing 3-1 to
Newcastle last Monday) conspired to mean that Middlesbrough need to win
and have Hull lose with a four-goal swing between the results, with
Newcastle also losing. It aint going to happen, which is a shame
because results were almost perfect today at one point (M'boro
1-0 up against Villa, Hull 1-0 down against Bolton) before both game
ended 1-1. Newcastle lost to Fulham and Man United clinched the title
with a 0-0 draw against Arsenal.
