previous - "The Beautiful People" - next I know you've heard it all before, but I'm still
going to fucking say it. Joey, where's your mum, the kangaroo? Plus,
does your dad have a Y-shaped todger?
1. Another week over. Frustrating at times,
relaxing at others, generally not as much a nightmare as work can be,
but I've been genuinely knackered and existentially sad at the latter
half of the week, as the reality of what I do (i.e. asking myself "Why
do I bother?") has hit home a little.
2. Let's consider the cricekt score, and holler
"Whoo-ya!", why don't we? On the first two days of the second test
(after miraculously drawing the first) England managed to chalk up
450ish, and then reduce the Aussies to 180ish for seven or eight :-)
3. Reading Nick Hornby 'My Favourite Wife',
which has been very good indeed. There have been numerous moments of
feeling involved, and I was almost in tears at a couple of points
earlier in the book. He's a damned fine writer - just enough novelty to
lift it above the usual 'bloke lit' category, but enough of the formula
to keep one (as a thirty-ish man) grounded in feeling kinship with the
characters.
4. Weather has been miserable this last couple
of days. Wet and windy - not at all Julyish. I'd expected a bit of warm
wet stormy weather, but it's been almost autumnal. Rather shabby,
methinks.
5. Have been playing a lot of Tony Hawk's
American Wasteland, which has been involving stuff, and well worth the
three quid I spent on it last weekend. I'm not very good at it, but
nevertheless.. hey nonny noo.
6. I've got that throaty vomity metallic 'eatnj
too much' kinda feeling. Uncomfortable forsure, I think I'll take some
Rennie's.
7. An amusing extent of the working week -
despite my feeling sad and frustrated at times - has been spent
flirting with a few of my female friends/colleagues. It's been pleasant
just to reciprocally compliment, and tell a few jokes and be charming,
and be charmed by another too. I'm not sure whether my flirtiness was
derived from feeling horny, feeling lonely, or feeling staid and in
need of pushing the boundaries.. but it's been OK.
8. Made my Mum a couple of CDs this week - one a
Bruce Springsteen compilation, and one just a handful of tunes I've
been listening to a bit in the last six months which I think she'd
like. Hopefully I'll have the chance to post 'em this weekend.
9. Shared a few textual exchanges this evening
with that young lady I was a little befuddled by around about
Christmastime. This followed a few moments earlier today when I was
housekeeping my mobile phone and got rid of a few text messages I had
shared with aforementioned lady on a flirty theme six or more months
back. Tonights SMSs were chatty but.. no magic as she's too immature
and too.. well.. wrong.
10. Not sure what I'm up to this weekend. Might
go to the art gallery tomorrow - there appears to be a couple of new
exhibitions on that look worth a goosey goosey gander :-)
