previous - "The Beautiful People" - next Good evening, folks and folkesses. I've just got back
from a nice weekend in Glasgow with my big sister, which was nice. I'm
hesitant to come over as ungrateful or miserable or anything, as it was a
good weekend and enjoyable company and good food and good shopping n'all
that.. but this evening I'm a little 'blargh' because of a combination of
tiredness, having to go back to work, and realisations about how much less
well I am doing in my life compared to how I should be and how I want to
be... it's odd but.. I dunno.
Friday morning she picked me up and we drove up
north, accompanied by some tunes (Glasvegas, Nirvana, Alison Moyet,
Evanescence) and some loud singing in the car from the two of us. The
weather was a bit rainy in places, but the scenery coming thru' the lakes
was very impressive, and made me want to get out into the country more
often.
Once we'd arrived and checked in, we had a wander
around the shops. I bought a few CDs, books and DVDs, as did my sister.
Was interesting to see that my comment I made a few years ago about
Glasgow women being a bit shorter and bustier than average still seems to
ring true. I need to lose some weight though..
Which wasn't helped by going for a few drinks and
then for a curry. Afterwards we headed into town for some drinks but, um,
where we went was a bit cack and then we only made it into Reflex for half
an hour before they shut it, and.. I felt like I was crap at keeping a
conversation going with my sister (which is a bit depressing, 'cause if I
can't chat with someone with whom I've so much common ground, then..
well.. who can I be sociable with).
Couple of times in the weekend she asked me how I
was on a more serious level, stuff about whether I'm happy and getting out
to see my mates enough and not working too hard and whether I want kids
eventually. It was nice to talk a bit, but.. hell I've 'got on with it' so
long I even put a brave slant on it when my sister asked.
Little too much walking round town over the
weekend, I picked up quite a few CDs/DVDs/books (read 'Supersense' by
Bruce Hood - very interesting, esp. this picture which looks different when viewed
close up or from four or five metres away), and my sense of dirtection was
nowhere near what it could have been. The art galleries were a bit
disappointing, there was some awkwardness resulting from two people
compromising what they wanted to do, and I didn't sleep well.
I had a good time though, it's always nice to see
my sister, I got a load of nice things for myself, the journey back was
pleasantly sing-along-able. When I got back to my flat I wanted to die.
LISTENING TO:- The Eagles Complete Greatest Hits,
which I purchased this w/e. I like the quiet ones - 'New Kid In Town',
'After The Thrill Is Gone' and 'Lyin' Eyes'.
Ooh, but there is good news - Hope Sandoval is
releasing another album in a month or so :-)
Which contrasts with the cricket news of the day,
Australia taking a 2-0 lead in the one-day series. Contrasting with poor
news for national sport, Scotland played well and got a two goal victory
over Macedonia (I've not seen so many men in kilts on the streets for a
long while!), England got a friendly win against Slovenia, and England
Ladies made it thru to the Women's European Championship final by beating
Holland in extra time tonight in their semi.
I'm going to go watch 'The Office' now, because..
well.. I dunno why. It'll cheep me up hopefully - I'm being a miserable
bastard and ungrateful, I know.
