Ashes in the grill, not cheese on toast

Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 - 22:26

Spoke to my Ma this evening on the phone, and ended up feeling a little sad about the fact I felt unable to tell her about my week and my blue feelings amongst it. It just wasn't the time or place, and I certainly didn't feel comfortable telling her that my weekend in Glasgow had left me a bit 'pah', because my Mum would've probably hence asked my sister about it, and my sister might think I was ungrateful or something. I don't want to worry people.

Three narrow wins in three games today in the football - Newcastle climbed to the summit of the Championship by beating Cardiff 1-0, Fulham got a late goal to beat Everton 2-1 (and leave The Toffees somewhat in trouble, points/form wise) and Villa were uninspired but managed to win the local derby against Birmingham City by a score of 1-0.

My attempts to do some work this afternoon were stymied by the fact my printer is a load of shite. I use it so infrequently that the ink just dries out etc. I'd hoped to do some reading, but given the option of reading from the computer screen and making notes, or putting off the reading till tomorrow, I've took the latter option.

I've eaten too much this weekend. Admittedly what I have eaten hasn't been all that unhealthy (lot of yoghurts and sandwiches - nothing fried or particularly processed in nature) but nevertheless I have put a fair amount away.

You gotta love this statement (if only for the oddly lenient sentence passed - perhaps in the good old days it was OK to burn your wife!) that I read today:- "1967 - Roy Gilchrist got involved in an argument with his wife during which time he branded her face with a hot iron. He was found guilty and sentenced to three months probation."

LISTENING TO:- I put on the Mark Knopfler CD I picked up a couple of weeks ago for a couple of quid in Sainsbury's. It's a really pleasant album, forsure. Yes, so it's not going to win any awards from the young hipsters, but it's a guy who has talent writing and playing a load of tunes, singing a bit, making a nice noise.

Anyhow, I better do my ironing. I've half a mind to stay up and watch the NFL - it appears that Five have decided to show games this year (and BBC 5Live radio have weekly commentaries too) hence I'm a little peeved that I have a semi-responsible job and can't justifiably stay up all night and then survive on a couple of hours of sleep.
