previous - "The Beautiful People" - next Knackering week - not really been in the mood to
entertain y'all (and to document crap for my future self to read) with
week-day entries. One of my bosses was on site for the second half of the
week, and though she was quite positive about what I'd been achieving and
all that, it was stressful by virtue of not being able to relax. I'm
behind in several ways too, but the workload is impossible so I am not
worrying overly.
The early kick-off saw Burnley extend their
excellent start to the season in home games, by turning on the style in
the second half through on-loan substitute David Nugent's brace. It ended
Burnley 3-1 Sunderland.
Strictly Come Dancing started this weekend and was
reasonably impressive. I like the scheduling better, a lot of the couples
look like they will be likeable, watchable and also have some dancing
potential. Ali Bastian looked very gorgeous indeed, but it's a shame to
have lost Karen (hence Erin is my new professional lady totty of choice,
methinks).
In the show it's self, half the couples danced this
weekend, and performed two dances each. Quite a bit of fair to middling
stuff, two or three pairs showing real poise, and three or so looking
clunky. In the end Martina Hingis lost out in the dance-off, which I
thought was a little harsh because there were two worse dancers than her.
That said, being a non-Brit, she's probably suffered w.r.t. falling behind
ragrding public support on the phone vote.
Today Arsenal bounced back from the wobbliness of
the last few games (losses to both Manchester teams and conceding two
goals in the first ten minutes against Standard Liege) by cruising to a
4-0 win over Wigan. Vermaelen got a couple of goals.
Today I've not done a massive amount, as befits a Satuday following a tiring week. I got out of bed at eleven, dressed and strolled into town in the pleasant early-autumn sunshine. There I posted a parcel to my Ma & Pa ('cause my sister had been reminding me to do so ever since she bought it in Glasgow t'other weekend) and did a smattering of food shopping.
On a completely different subject, I do like nice breasts. It's an obvious statement, but I could quite happily play with them and/or look at them all day if permitted to do so.
In a basement battle, Birmingham got a late winner
to defeat Hull City and move Blues into mid table. I've got relatively
little to say about a seemingly unexcting game between two teams which I
don't really care about.
The first half of the week I continued with my semi-careful diet after what the occupational health nurse said last week. Alas this has gone astray due to a combination of stressedness, tiredness and a lack of time, plus the fact the occupational health nurse came back to test my lung capacity and thoroughly pissed me off by mucking up the test (easy to do, it's a pretty shitty diagnostic tool) then blaming me.
Pompey stayed bottom of the table and pointless
after losing thier first six games of the season. Villa weren't very
impressive against them this afternoon, but they didn't really need to be
in order to win 2-0.
Last night was the first episode of Peep Show
series six, and it was pretty good. There were alas some disappointments
w.r.t. a certain sense of tiredness about the permanant cast members, but
it had moments. As a stand-alone episode it was below average, but I look
forward to how the series will develop storylines.
OK, so Middlesbrough followed up their win against
Sheffield Wednesday in midweek with a capitulation today against West
Brom. They lost 5-0 at The Riverside, and though remaining in the top
three, do allow the chasing pack to catch up somewhat.
Bolton and Stoke shared the points and the goals at
The Reebok, in what was surely not a game for football purists. Bolton
will be relieved after getting a late equaliser through Matt Taylor.
The evening kick-off saw Liverpool travel to Upton
Park, and goals came quite quickly in the first half. The teams split four
goals by half time, but it was Benitez's men in the second half who came
through. They seem a little reliant on their star players, but these top
performers were the difference, as Torres got a second goal for the
winner. It ended 3-2, but in no way were West Ham outclassed.
LISTENING TO:- this week I have been enjoying Mark
Knopfler, The Eagles, Taylor Swift and St Etienne. Mmmm-okay?
Something I saw on xkcd which pretty eloquently satirises some
of the astronomical amounts we developed nations spend on the romantic
notion of space exploration (when in truth we'd be better off
concentrating efforts and resources on terrestrial problems, in my
opinion!)
