previous - "The Beautiful People" - next Blargh. I've got a cold and have had a pretty taxing
week at work. Hmm.. speaking of a 'pretty tax', how would that work? Would
it lead to people deliberately mutilating their faces to avoid paying
more? Who would do the judging? I think there might be a backlash in the
form of those Moslem veil hijab things.
1. The major stress of the week was an incident on
Monday (or it may have been Tuesday) when a refusal by some 'blind as a
bat and refusing to acknowledge it' woman at work to sign a lab memo I was
passing round - because I had picked her and four other technicians out as
having made the same mistake with their paperwork. Because I was left
feeling powerless to do my job, because I wasn't backed up by the lab
managers/supervisors, and because I really didn't have the time to fuck
about chasing up people for not doing thier job properly.. and THEN
re-writing memos to them because some of them don't like the way I've
written the memo.. well it left me angry and sad and stressy.
2. Thankfully the rest of the week passed away ever
more busy, but with less stress. My boss was on site Thursday and Friday
but seemed pleased with much I'd been doing. The Site Manager was being
chased by his bosses for a progress report on my work, and backed me up
when I said I was doing what I could.. so I think he's happy with my
effort. I can't really do much more than I am putting in, and I feel quite
secure in my job overall.
3. Strickly tonight saw the exit of Richard
Dunwoody, to the relief of Craig Kelly, who was also in the dance-off. I
saw Craig Kelly once in a supermarket in Crouch End, you know. OKay, so
that's pretty crap as far as 'celebrity stories' go, but on the same
morning I also saw the black lass who was in the first series of Big
Brother (Mel?).
4. Anyhow, last night's dances were better than
tonight's, plus some of the tired pantomime villain stuff w.r.t. booing
Craig Revel Hallmark.. well it grates with me a tad. That bloke from
Hollyoaks is a bit of a ringer, and some of the biased not noticing faults
stuff is a little uneven. Still, you gotta love the show, flaws or no
flaws.
5. I was supposed to meet up with a friend today
for a few drinks (in truth there is a part of me which is glad I didn't,
due to the fact my cold and sore throat has got worse throughout the day)
but he cancelled in the end. He's got trouble at home with his bat-shit
crazy missus, and had to take a rain check. In truth I understand that you
gotta do what you gotta do (and I am guilty of being misused by women in
the past and allowing it to spoil other aspects of my life) but it is a
shame.
6. I feel bad to say it, but I hope that he and her
break up. I don't wish the unhappiness of a break-up on him, but I fear
that the pain of staying in something so chaotic and frequently cacky,
well it'll be worse for my mate in the end I think.
7. I'm not going to waste (well, 'fill') umpteen
paragraphs with lots of description of todays football. Suffice to say
there were plenty plenty of goals in the top division.
8. Liverpool dished out a heavy 6-1 defeat to Hull,
and Spurs got a similar win against Burnley. Man United didn't play well
but beat Stoke. There were narrow wins for Birmingham, Everton and
Blackburn over Bolton, Portsmouth and Aston Villa. The surprise result of
the day was Wigan's 3-1 home victory against Chelsea.
9. In the Championship, Newcastle slaughtered
Ipswich in the evening's televised game. Middlesbrough let a 2-0 half time
lead slip against Coventry and only left with a point (falling to 4th
place). At the same time, Arsenal limped past Fulham 1-0.
10. LISTENING TO:- I listened to 'Chinese
Democracy' by Guns 'n' Roses yesterday, and it's a pretty promising album.
Nothing really stood out, but it's enough like what they used to do well
to please me (though I have changed in the last eighteen years too,
unsurprisingly).
