previous - "The Beautiful People" - next A mixed last few days, if I a honest. If I'm not
honest, I'd describe the last few days as being full of golden flowers,
severed squirrel limbs, pot-holing and knicker-bocker glory. That said,
honesty is the best policy (well, use of tact to conform with social norms
aside..) so I suppose I better admit that:-
1. You find me having took the day off work. Like
is often the case, I'm feeling a lot better as a result of not struggling
to my place of employment (which makes me feel a bit guilty) but in truth
I know that I've made the right decision w.r.t. getting me back to 100% as
quickly as possible and not causing a relapse by rushing.
2. Saturday daytime, I had the cold/fluey bug
(which had made an appearance on my week off, and which one of my office
colleagues was suffering last week too - may have got it off her) which
got worse and worse throughout Sunday. I'm weakened but significantly less
bunged up today.
3. LISTENING TO:- a magazine cover CD from a few
years back - 'Uncut - In God's Country', which is a very nice mix of blues
and bluegrass type stuff (including BB King, Woody Guthrie, Billie
Holiday, Johnny Allen, Hank Williams and a lot more good shit).
4. To get the football-related stuff over and done
with early in the entry, the usual smattering of expected and unusual
results - with a plethora of red cards and ropey refereeing too. Liverpool
lost 3-1 at Fulham and had two dismissed. Chelsea, Arsenal and Man United
had expected wins against Bolton, Spurs and Blackburn. There were 2-2
draws at Stoke v Wolves and Sunderland v West Ham, and Everton against
Villa ended with the points split too. Man City and Birmingham drew blanks
against each other, Pompey slaughtered Wigan, and Burnley's home form
continued as they beat Hull. Middlesbro' lost 1-0 at home to Plymouth and
slip to 7th.
5. My computer developed an arse of a fault on
Saturday, which utterly floored me for a good few hours. In the end
thankfully I was able to google the error messages on my mobile, and
reboot from a CD that I'd found by accident a few days previous (and
thought 'Ooh, a boot disk - when would I need this?' about!). The whole
thing made me decidedly fucked off, however.
6. I watched a documentary about a giant
hydroelectric dam in Iceland yesterday. Actually it might have been
Saturday. In any case, it was interesting in the majority, but.. I think
it went on a little longer than my attention span was. The one's I've seen
in similar ilk on football stadia design, and on oil rig disasters..
they've been more varied.
7. Some particularly odd referrals to this site
recently, on the theme of how lesbians might make love, hypothetical
sterotypical cockney phrases, 'relations' with a moussaka, and French
rugby players.
8. I've been reading John O'Farrell's 'May Contain
Nuts' this past few days - it's been very funny in places, but I can't
help feeling a little like some of the themes aren't relevant to me (as a
non-parent) hence I'm only getting some of the wittiness within. Not sure
what I'll line up to read next.
9. I made use of the fact I had some free time
today to do a few domestical things that I'd not felt up to this weekend.
This didn't include painting Katy Perry's nice breasts, but did consist of
tidying up my flat, doing the washing up, and having a shave.
10. My teeth are being cuntish. This isn't helping
w.r.t. the general mailaise in the wake of my fluey symptoms. Oh I wish
I'd looked after me teeth..
11. LISTENING TO:- a few more random CDs I stuck on
today included albums by Rialto, Disturbed (good washing up music, that!)
and Hypnogaja.
12. I've got so much good music, I really should
make more of it. If you'd told me ten or twelve years ago that I'd have
1000+ CDs and would also have the technology to pick 800+ tunes at a time
to listen to on a personal stereo.. well I'd have been amazed. I certainly
would have expected me to listen to more than just a core couple of
hundred tracks on a regularish basis, like seems to be the way with my
lazy iPod loading.
13. Watched a bit o' Green Wing today. Plus some of
the news (which is very repretitive indeed), as well as a smattering of
shitty daytime TV while I awaited SCDITT. The blonde lady who replaced
Carol on Countdown (Rachel Riley) seems a nice enough lass - if a little
monotonous w.r.t. announcing the letters (which is all I saw). Was odd to
see Jeff Stelling so quiet and chilled too :-)
14. I'm supposed to be meeting up with a couple of
ol' university mates later in the week, which'll be really nice. I'm a
little apprehensive (as usual) w.r.t. the logistical nature of it.. one
lass is travelling from Birmingham and I'm worried she'll get lost.. but
it'll hopefully be pretty damned sound indoodly.
15. Sad bastard that I am, I've been playing Fifa07 and have taken Shrewsbury Town from Coca Cola Division 2 to The Championship in two seasons. I'm pretty sure that we'll struggle at this level, but hopefully 'cause the money is streaming in, I'll be able to consolidate and buy up some decent players from lower leagues.
16. Anyhow, I better be orf to bed, as I'm pretty much forced by circumstance to return to work tomoz, however rough I feel - too much to do to take more time offo!
