Compelled to repeat the same meal of cauliflower cheese.

1. Work was surpisingly quiet. In truth it wasn't actually quiet, it was probably fairly average in terms of customer demands, but compared to last week it felt like I was pootling along getting done most of what I wanted to get done as opposed to drowning in a tide of never-ending sewage. I left on time and it was a nice day too. So yes, let's hope the week continues in this manner.

2. I finished a silly American cop-thriller today (too much wise-ass dialogue and 'action' associated with a far-from-compelling plot about an Israeli relic) and will attempt to read 'Schindler's Ark' next, after my Mum told me to choose a non-crime novel on a historical theme for my next read (I did ask her to suggest, I'm not saying she dictates significant aspects of my life in this manner all the time!) and the other historical novels on my shelf didn't appeal much.

3. Snooty the manatee has died, aged 69. He resided at the South Florida Museum's Parker Manatee Aquarium in Bradenton, Florida, was one of the first recorded captive manatee births, was the oldest manatee in captivity (and possibly the oldest manatee in the world). Due to his hand rearing from birth, Snooty was never released to the wild and was the only manatee at the museum's aquarium that had regular human interaction.

4. Have accidentally accepted an invite to meet up with a load of ol' workmates at the weekend, which I wanted to keep as 'maybe' and see how I feel on the day. I have changed my r.s.v.p. back to uncertain, not sure whether I fancy seeing most of the people going, esp. if I'm not drinking (though a few of the folk there it'd be cool to see). I may pop in, would be a shame to piss off a couple of folk who said they're looking forward to seeing me there.

6. Steinheil is a lunar impact crater that is located in the rugged highlands in the southeastern part of the Moon. It forms a prominent crater pair with the similar-sized Watt, which it partly overlies to the southeast. To the northwest is the large walled plain Janssen. Due to the location of this crater, it appears foreshortened when viewed from the Earth. It is from the Nectarian period, 3.92 to 3.85 billion years ago. This is a relatively circular crater that has undergone some light erosion from subsequent impacts. The inner wall is wider along the southwestern rim than elsewhere, and there is a slight outward bulge in the western rim. There are a few tiny craterlets along the rim and inner wall, the most notable being a crater at the base of the inner northeast rim. The interior floor is level, with no central peak and only a few minor craterlets.

7. Five years ago today we put tape over the face of one of my female colleagues at work and took photographs of her. It was something akin to a 'scold's bridle', but made of masking tape not metal. I cannot recall the reason for this.

8. The microwave auditory effect, also known as the microwave hearing effect or the Frey effect, consists of audible clicks (or, with speech modulation, spoken words) induced by pulsed/modulated microwave frequencies. The clicks are generated directly inside the human head without the need of any receiving electronic device. The effect was first reported by persons working in the vicinity of radar transponders during World War II. During the Cold War era, the American neuroscientist Allan H. Frey studied this phenomenon and was the first to publish information on the nature of the microwave auditory effect.

9. In Tilberg, the city where Vincent van Gogh learned to paint, it ended Belgium 1-2 Netherlands. Belgium again in chnage strip for a third game in a row seemed unfair. Midpoint of the half a trip on tricky orange lady saw Spitze step up and convert a penalty in an even half. Wullaert equalised on the hour mark - her vollved cross cum shot looped up and over a badly placed keeper for a not completely intentional equaliser. It looked like Belgium might fight their way back into the game, but they couldn't find a winner. In the end it was the Dutch who triumphed after Martins' deflcted goal on the break with fifteen left. Tears from some of the young Belgians at the end, but they can be proud of some good performances.

10. Whereas, the crowd in Deventer saw a match that finished Denmark 1-0 Norway. We had an early goal, Kathryn Veje found in the fifth minute with the Norway defence unbalanced, able to shoot past Hjelmseth. Thorgeson almost added a second but her placed shot lacked power. Late in the half, a penalty awarded for an obstruction of Hegeberg (exaggerated by the BBC Player of the Year) taken by Caroline Graham Hansen was well saved. In the second half those in white and navy piled on the pressure but couldn't force the ball home, some scrambled defending and some shots off the woodwork (though it never looked likely that they'd turn the game around enough to qualify). Very disappointing by the twice former champions, but Denmark will be delighted to progress.
